چکیده

The laser-driven MiniFlyer system is used to launch a small, thin flyer plate for impact on a target. Consequently, it is an indirect drive technique that de-couples the shock from the laser beam profile. The flyer velocity can be controlled by adjustment of the laser energy. The upper limits on the flyer velocity involve the ability of the substrate window to transmit the laser light without absorbing, reflecting, etc.; Le., a maximum amount of laser energy is directly converted into kinetic energy of the flyer plate. We have investigated the use of sapphire, quartz, and BK-7 glass as substrate windows. In the past, a particular type of sapphire has been used for nearly all Miniflyer experiments, Results of this study in terms of the performance of these window materials, based on flyer velocity are discussed,

Investigation on a Novel Laser Impact Spot Welding

In this paper a novel laser impact spot welding (LISW) method is described, in which a hump was formed on the flyer plate on the intended welding spot location by local pre-forming. When the flyer and base plates were placed together to perform welding, the two plates kept in contact over their entire surfaces except at the hump, where a local air gap was enough to guarantee the impact velocity...

Designing an approprate solenoid and magnetic field for the HZDR laser-driven beamline

Nowadays, due to the high costs and large dimensions of the conventional proton accelerators, other optimal methods for producing the proton beam have been studied. Using of Laser-driven proton accelerators is one of the important and new methods. In laser-driven ion acceleration, a highly ultra-intense laser pulse interacts with solid density targets and will create a plasma media that will ac...

Theoretical Studies of Electrical Characteristics of the Nitrogen Laser

A theoretical analysis of the circuits for a nitrogen laser driven by the Blumlein or capacitor charge transfer transmission line is given in detail. The electrical characteristics of the charge line for a special case of resonant charging are discussed and the effects of various parameters on voltage and current are investigated. By using MICRO-CAP software the transient behavior of the curren...

Magnetically driven hyper-velocity launch capability at the Sandia Z accelerator

The intense magnetic field generated by the Z accelerator at Sandia National Laboratories is used as a pressure source for material science studies. A current of ∼20 MA can be delivered to the loads used in experiments on a time scale of ∼100e600 ns. Magnetic fields (pressures) exceeding 1200 T (600 GPa) have been produced in planar configurations. In one application we have developed, the magn...

EFFECT OF NOZZLE DIAMETER AND ATOMIZING AIR PRESSURE ON CHARACTERISTICS OF IN-FLIGHT PARTICLES IN WIRE ARC SPRAYING

In wire arc spraying, the atomizing air pressure and applied nozzle system are important factors influencing particles characteristics and coating quality. The aim of this paper is to study how the characteristics of particles such as size, velocity and temperature are influenced by the operating conditions in wire arc spray. For that, three types of wires are tested: solid wire of stainless st...
